The Hallertau Brewbar is located on the Riverhead Highway, miles away from the beer drinking public, situated amongst farms and lifestyle blocks. The site itself used to be an old packing shed, it would have taken a serious mix of kahunas and self belief to turn this unpromising site into a brew bar. Following the ‘build it and they will come’ mantra, that is exactly what Steve Plowman did in 2005 and the results are evident.
The Hallertau complex is made up of a sizable brewery, a bar, a restaurant and a lounge area complete with fireplace. It’s design is something completely unique, not aspiring in any way to imitate another style or harboring foreign aspirations (yup that's Faux Irish or English bars I’m having a poke at). It is pure and contemporary Kiwi, in a totally refreshing way.
Many of our brew pubs produce beer in the English style (C&B, Galbraiths etc). The Hallertau brand and it’s beer has an irreverence which matches it’s environment. The range includes over-hopped IPAs, beer aged in Pinot Noir barrels and a Kolsch style Ale.
The year round range is broken up into the “First Four” and the more premium “Heroic Range”. The First Four are on tap and available throughout the country in 355ml bottles. The Heroic Range are bottled in champagne style bottles but occasionally appear on tap as specials.
